SMOOTHBORE load advice

I am shooting a 16 gauge smoothbore with a .640 roundball and a .010 patch....my groups are all over the paper can anyone advise me as to what to do to get down to a 4 inch 50 yd group? Should I be shooting wads, cards etc to get better groups?

my best two shots today were 80 gr. 2F patches are wonder lube 100 plus (prelubed patches from Track of the wolf). The couple patches I found looked to have holes burned in them

I would try a thicker patch if you have them or try working some more lube into the ones you have. an over the powder wad would most likely work for you, if a thicker patch is too much. my trade gun in 62 cal prefers a card over the powder with a .010 patch, any thicker and it loads hard.

Some guys will shoot bare ball.I tried it in my TC 56 cal and got better groups than with patch ball.
Powder,over powder card,fiber wad,ball,over shot card.
Might try a .650 rb also.
