January 5th Day 10

Anyone go out this morning? I had my alarm set for 5 but just couldn't get out of bed. It's a bit nippy out there and honestly I think evenings are better this time of year. So depending on the weather I may get out this evening. Good luck all!

The plan is to head out this afternoon...... we'll see. An inch of snow is forecast for tonight, might save my energy and do a full day tomorrow.

That wind yesterday afternoon / evening kicked my but...

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.

Evenings are going to be really good over the next 3 days. I plan on being out tonight, tomorrow night, and all day Saturday.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Just got back in. Had a couple sneak behind me a little before 5 but no shot. The gun wouldnt have gone off anyways. I tried to shoot it off before getting to the car. I thought I did a pretty good job covering the pan from the snow but obviosuly not. How do you guys do it?

Sure was a beautiful night in the woods with the snow falling. Give it a go tomorrow.

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.

for wet/damp weather a leather lock cover called a cow's knee works very well.
it needs to waterproofed, use snow seal, or bee's wax if being traditional

it ties onto the rifle at the wrist and behind rear sight, if it was made right, it can be quickly flicked off to the side to see your sights.

Unhappy

I haven't been out yet, and honestly, I really don't have any legitimate excuses. On the way home around noon today after completing yet another "honey dew" task, I may have had an epiphany about this late season. I'm now pretty old, it's too cold, I tagged a buck earlier in Nov., and my hunting buddy just left for Florida for the winter.

The best of my flintlock seasons may have passed me by.

No hunting for me today. Out tomorrow afternoon and then all day every day until Thursday next week. Lots of tags left to fill (bit off more than I could chew this year).
