December 29th - Day 4 Flintlock

OK folks here's to those heading out this am.

I'm weathered in and working on the honey do list.

Hope to get out this afternoon. But 20mph winds forcasted.

Stay safe, wear your harness and keep your powder dry.

Good luck to you!

Just checked my weather forecast and it looks like Saturday is my only day this week, too much rain and very windy forecasted.

Haven't been out yet with the flinter. Once the rain stops around 11 I might suit up and go for a walk with the ground being nice and soft. Just seems like a perfect day to sneak up on one.

No hunting for me today. It's a day off. Legs are sore from hunting the first 3 days. Back at it tomorrow.

Raining here, plus I've got to be at work again this afternoon. Plan to hunt tomorrow and Saturday.

2 inches of fresh snow up here. In the blind at 6:30 sat til 9:45. Wind picked up after sunrise, it was ripping. Nothing came through. Walking out there were fresh tracks so they sneaked around me. Buddy saw 3 over 100 yards. No shots taken. Back at it later

Got 1 at 830am in Butler. Missed the 1st shot. Group of 7 stuck around for another shot. Went looking for blood. Saw 2 doe that wouldn't leave and then saw the bedded doe. 3rd shot finished her. Just dropped her off at the Amish and now headed home to head to camp til Sunday

Was going to take today off and work on keeping the better half happy. But she gave me an early release around 2pm, so I headed out.
Around 4pm, three doe came down the mountain and the gun went boom. Somehow I missed, figure a miss is much better than a bad hit. Grateful for the snow that made follow up tracking / hit determination easy .......

Tomorrow will be a long, good day .............

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.

Was out this morning in the fresh snow. Did not see anything but did find 2 sets of tracks when i tried to sneak through the hemlocks. Looks like they went around me about sunup. On the way out i found their tracks in my boot prints from when i went in. Foun one set of very fresh coyote tracks while sneaking around too.

Will be out in the morning again.
