Need Help Identifying a gun

Alright fellas, here is what we have.
It appears to be a smaller caliber rifle. As you can see the inside of the barrel is octagon.
The markings (cant get good pics) on the barrel say "Hawken 1812"
The initials that can be seen on the lock are " AK "
As you can see I cleaned up the silver plate on the stock and you can see the picture of an eagle.
The wood seems to have a nice curl and I'm gonna leave it be unitl I see what I have.
The trigger gaurd, butt plate and thimble are brass and those too I'm leaving alone for now.

The barrel is 34" and the entire lenght is 49".

I'm Trying to get an idea of what it is and what it may be worth. YES, I'm taking it to Dixons the week of the sports show and I'm sure they can help me out some but.....the suspense is killin me!!

Zimms probably goin to have the best chance at i.d.ing that baby.Unless it is a cheap import spinoff with junk parts,it looks like a really nice rifle to ad to your collection.

Re: Need Help Identifying a gun

Cant help much on your rifle but since it is a percussion it would have to be from the very early 1800s on because percussion systems did not exist before then. The odd type of rifling could be what they call the Whitworth style which he patented in the middle 1850s but were used before that time.

Re: Need Help Identifying a gun

It's killing me not to touch the stock. I can see the curl just screamin to get out. This should be interesting. The guy I got it from said it's been around his family for years..many many years. Hoping it's at least an authentic even if the value is low just having it is pretty cool.

Looks like it has a " Vincent" Rifle profile. Can`t quite see the Buttplate. Man, you are touching history...

Re: Need Help Identifying a gun

I am betting Andrew Kopp. He was well known and respected back in that era as a fine gunsmith, and also in your area. Post those pics over on American Longrifles website. The most advanced collectors in the world hang out there. They will tell you in no time if its a Kopp, or whoever if its not.
