Flint ?

I have only used the dept.store T/C flints on my rifle, the same kind it came with.I have no experience with the other types. Will the english flints work as good or better with the T/C frizzen? Lymans look like they also ship their rifles with the same flints as T/C.Are the T/C flints of the German agate type? T/C recommends their own agate type flint and I know they want to cash in on that but I would think that they would want you to use the flint with the best most reliable ignition.I know Traditions recommends english flints. But they also package those flints with their name.

Re: Flint ?

Stay away from the name brand flints. T/C frizzens are soft and prefer the German White Agate flints. You can buy them from TOTW or Dixie and some others. It`s all I use. I`d be out hunting, but I was in a head on collision a couple of weeks ago and can`t drive.

Re: Flint ?

Those agates TC sales aren't real good imo....nothing near a good german agate flint...atleast from what I've seen...

Black english are a bit cheaper and I like them....look for a good even color and a nice edge and a nice flat to sit in the hammer...

Gotta play with bevel...my lock likes bevel down with english and bevel up with german agates...

It seems to me like the TC agates are softer or something....

Re: Flint ?

That,s why I stayed with the T/C branded agates.I figured they worked better with T/C,s frizzen.I wouldn,t think T/C would want to tarnish their reputation by putting their name on unreliable fints.Best wishes Oct.and I hope you can get out at some point. Can you go out if someone drives you and helps you get set up?

Re: Flint ?

I would stay away from any of the cut agate flints. They are expensive and they don't last very long. The english and french amber flints are the ticket. I can get 50+ shots with a french amber flint

Re: Flint ?

No precut flints here.My Lymans and TC's all get French Amber,Black English,or American Chert.
The precut gave me around 15 shots then it was finished. The others I stated give about 80 shot out of a flint.

The answers to all of life's questions are found in the Bible!
