Jacobsburg gun building class

Anyone here done the class they offer?

I'm not real far from them, and have been thinking about their class for a bit now. Just wondering if anyone's done it, and what your experiences were.

Thanks!

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

I have no experience, but thanks for posting this. I may very well take the course next fall. I've always wanted a Fowler and would rather learn to build and then make my own than buy one.

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

I don't think you will have much choice in the build. I talked to Dave Ehrig about the class at Dixon's last summer, and I believe they use a Lancaster style rifle kit with a precarved stock. I did see on their site that you can let them know if you're a lefty, but I don't think there will be much variation as far as style, parts, etc.

I can understand wanting everyone working on the same thing....would be like herding cats if all the students had something different, lol.

I'm pretty sure I'll be enrolling for the fall. The only thing that makes me hesitate is knowing I'm going to be away two consecutive weekends in October. That might be an issue.

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

I figured it would be a certain style kit for all, I was just commenting that it will give me the skills to build my own. Inletting is the intimidating thing to me.

If I get the chance I'll ask at the Dixon's Fair what kit it is. I'd like to tackle a rifling bench too, but that will have to wait until retirement.

I'll have to wait for next year, I just replaced my HVAC system.

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

Yikes, HVAC anything isn't cheap.

If you search up their site and dig a bit, you'll find the enrollment form as well as a list of the topics covered. It looks pretty thorough, although I guess if they missed anything, there's no way I'd know it, lol.

I'll have to check when they're running it again in the fall and see if my time away will be an issue. I suspect it might.

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

Thanks, the registration form says its Sep & Oct on Sundays, 1:00 to 5:00. The site mentions a spring class, I might be able to do that?

Re: Jacobsburg gun building class

Yeah, looking at the fall now, I think I probably have to wait till the spring session.

Kinda bummed about that, but missing a lot of classes isn't what I had in mind.
