Hatfield 50 cal. Kentucky Long Rifle

I'm hoping some of you Blackpowder guys can help me determine the age of my Hatfield. No serial numbers on the rifle. On the side of the tang where it screws down to stock is the marking HRW I'm assuming that stands for Hatfield Rifle Works. It's also has 13/16, I'm assuming that's barrel diameter. It also has a 50 stamped by touch hole. Caliper I bet. Stock is extremely light weight, maybe maple? If you guys could give me any insight into it's age. I would greatly appreciate it. I know it's an original as there are no Italian markings from Petersoli on it.

Thank you for you input.

It was first ted Hatfield rifle work, had grrw barrels, than he got Italian parts. Should be a serial number, if its three digits you have an early one, before it went to poop.

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......

It's crazy but there are no Serial # stamped on gun. Just the markings I've listed.

I have a hatfield also , but mine has a 15/16" barrel .50 cal. I took two does with it this yr. Mine was made around 1987, has seen several thousand ( yes thousand ) rounds thru it . Shoots like a dream. won lots of woods walk shoots with it.

It's a great shooting rifle for sure, I've taken a few deer with it. Does your rifle have a serial # and does it have the HRW marking on the barrel?

Re: Hatfield 50 cal. Kentucky Long Rifle

I contacted Dixons and they have no idea how to date Hatfields as well. Guess I'll keep trying.

I still have my original paperwork from my rifle, I just need to dig it out and check the date on it
