Re: Day 6 Flintlock Season

Still sick but not quite as bad.
Had the trail cam up on State land since Monday.Didn't hunt last couple days.Thought I'd better get it out this morning before the weekend crowd finds it.Well they found it and left the cam but took the SD card.

Heading out in an hour after NYE recovery. Spent all day yesterday still hunting the hills of PoCo. What beautiful country we have.

Re: Day 6 Flintlock Season

Zilch this morning. Not sure what's going to happen for the evening. Neighboring property hunter shot one last night (I was out and heard the shot). Called today to get permission to go into our side to look for it, which of course was granted. I wasn't the one who talked to them..trying to get in touch now to find out where they're headed. Not to stop them...heck, I will offer to help, but if my guess is right on where the deer is headed from what I know, it'll mess up my plans for the evening and I'll need to adjust accordingly.

Hopefully the guy can recover the deer. If he doesn't find it, I'll have them mark or show me where they gave up. Sometimes I can find deer others can't.

Edit to add: Called the owner of the property where the deer was shot to offer assistance, and he said they'd tracked it and lost the blood, but from what he described, they didn't go anywhere near anything that will impact my hunt this afternoon. Stinks that they didn't get the deer, but my plans are unaffected. Hopefully I get to see some antlers tonight....

Re: Day 6 Flintlock Season

About 10am I was getting cold and decided to walk about 1 mile down 1 side of the valley and then push back up the other side. Almost to the bottom and I hear something coming down the other side. It's 2 doe and they are crossing the small creek it will be below me broadside at 50 yards. Only problem is that I'm off balance on a hill and when I move out my 1 foot I step on a twig and they spook back up the other side. I can see the bigger doe 100 yards away in the pines. I shoot and then I can see them anymore. I walk over and I hit the tree right beside the deer. I push up that side to my dad and see tracks that I'm moving deer in all directions. Found a dead doe that was only a couple days old. As I get closer to I can see fresh tracks headed his way. I get to him and he saw it but never had a clear shot. Tired and sweaty. Shower, laundry, beer, food, beer again then sleep and do it again tomorrow. Hunted near Utica PA today
