Re: Bags Packed?

Good reminder...

My bag stays packed...but I know I shot atleast 4 times last season...

I won't get out till the last few days of the regular season...

Maybe it'll be colder and have snow by then......

Just doe hunting this year...first time in atleast 3 seasons...I was enjoying those flintlock bucks...

Re: Bags Packed?

Got a new bag from Eric Fleischer last year after the season, so I had it at the range last weekend to shoot from the bag. Still getting used to that....but I'll get the hang of it.

I carry a couple of premeasured charges in RMC tubes as well as a couple or three patched balls in a loading block just in case I need as fast a reload as I can get. Other than that, I carry pre-lubed patches and balls in a pouch in the bag.

Carry a pick, priming flask, short starter, old toothbrush, screwdriver/flint knapping hammer, and my horn. Spare flints and a worm and ball puller go in the patchbox on the stock.

Re: Bags Packed?

I just built a half-stock flintlock rifle for my son's 20th birthday so I put together a bag for him and got mine together as well, both in .50 caliber for this year (I also built myself a full-stock rifle this past summer in .50 versus my typical .54 rifle). Looking forward to the season for sure.

Re: Bags Packed?

Bag is still packed for my .45 Bedford. Still deciding if I want to use it or my .54 Early Lanc. Just built the .45 last summer and did not take anything with it in the early season, so will give it another chance in the late season. Will still take the .54 with me though. I have a .50 cal Bedford on the work bench being built now for next year.

I check into my room Tues evening (staying thru Sunday), but may stop on my way and put a few hours in the woods before I check in.

Re: Bags Packed?

I take 2 bags. A shooting pouch and a haversack.

The shooting pouch is small and full if things I rarely need. The Haversack is large, full of food and TP...and without fail, I always wish I brought more.

Re: Bags Packed?

LOL, that's a good point. I'll likely use a small fanny pack or backpack to tote non-rifle/flintlock specifics and save the shooting bag for flintlock stuff.

I always have binoculars with me, too. Kind of weird using pretty late model optics alongside a replica of a 1760's era longrifle, but then again, they didn't need to count points in the 1760's before pulling the trigger, either, lol.

Re: Bags Packed?

The shooting bag is where I keep all the little things I'm looking for in my range box all summer.

Re: Bags Packed?

shooting bags are always ready to go. most get used all the time for hunting or shooting. any food stuff or other things go in my coat. if period dressing, I have room in the bag for a candy bar or two and my smokes.

tdd makes a point that I have thought a lot about on the subject of optics. It sure would be nice to not have to look for and count points on bucks. like you said, your out there with your 1700's rifle and you have to use your bino's to make sure its big enough. but it is what it is I guess.
