thoughts?

having spent 7 hours on the road today to go to the eastern and only being there for 2 hours, including sitting down to eat lunch, I can't help but wonder what is going to happen to our hobby a few short years down the road. I started this hobby(addiction) 37 years ago and have never looked back. my two kids where raised going to rendezvous along with several other families for years. there just aren't many young people there any more. and by young, I mean under 50. what a shame to see such a wholesome, family activity slowly fade into the past. looking back, I can't help but wonder if the hobby didn't peak back in the 80's, when every rendezvous was over crowded with camps and filled up shortly after the gates where open. so, what do you other "old timers" think, and even some input from the younger folks is welcome.

Re: thoughts?

It's no different than deer camps, all older and few younger people. I am 37 and I don't rendezvous but I will go to shoots and dress the part during hunting.

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......

Re: thoughts?

My friend is down there now. He said the same thing. No new blood. He set up 4 days ahead of time to get a spot. Told him I hope it doesn't rain.

I'm so far behind I think I'm in first place.

Re: thoughts?

I went to some weekend matches for a few years and then my first eastern in iirc, 1987. I have been away for awhile. Weekend clubs have folded by the dozen. 5 shooters is about average for my local club's Sunday matches.
Long gone are the days when guys bought a $80 repo and $3 a pound powder.

Re: thoughts?

The last black powder shoot I went to was last Monday. I was the youngest one there and I'm 55. kind of sad.

Re: thoughts?

The federation has been running an over 60 agg at the state shoot for the last few years. Now they've added an over 70.

The over 60, the top score was 95XX followed by a 94XX, 94XX, 93XXXX. (100 possible).

For the over 70 agg, the top score was 93X followed by a 92, and a 89X. (100 possible).

adding just in case anyone is curious....Main agg (possible 200) winner had a 181X. Second was a 174XXXX, and third was a 169XX.

Junior agg (possible 100) winner shot a 96XX.

match 12 Junior, (possible 50) scores were 50X,49X,49X,49X.

All aggs and match 12, patched RB and offhand.

same here at the eastern. was that way 2 years ago at the eastern. I guess its just like hunting and fishing, all are slowly losing the younger people.
