Finally pulled the trigger

Finally pulled the trigger and ordered a flintlock kit to start my 1st build. Something I've been wanting to do for over 15 yrs, but circumstances prevented until now. Ordered a Track of the Wolf Bedford kit in 45 cal.

Looking forward to it. Only thing on back order is the side plate. By the time I get to that step it should be in, so no big deal for now. Hope to have it done by early muzzleloader season. Will see how it goes.

Re: Finally pulled the trigger

Ordered it in 45 because I already have a 50 and 54. Wanted it more for target. Thinking of getting back into BP shoots again. The 50 cal I used to use, although a tack driver, is not the best. Also will use it in the early season when shots will be 50 yds or less where I usually hunt.

My next one I plan on doing in 50 cal. Thinking of cannibalizing my current 50 cal and using what I can from it. Hate the lock and stock on it. But that is down the road until after I get the 45 built

Re: Finally pulled the trigger

I would say that you are pretty well hooked. Down the road you will realize that you need something for squirrels, a .32 or .36 cal., and a .58 would come in handy for when flintlocks are allowed in the archery bear season. Then, you will start wishing for a smoothbore or two, and justify those builds because now you have the building tools so "it would be a waste to allow them to go moldy!"

And, it is about this time when your wife will simply shake her head and wonder just when it was that you began to lose your mind.

Re: Finally pulled the trigger

Nice looking rifle. I think you will like the .45 too.
Is it a swamped barrel or 13/16" straight? I have always wanted a .45 long rifle for deer hunting and have been looking at them real hard lately.

Re: Finally pulled the trigger

Take your time, put it down often, when tired sleep, cranky don't use a chisel...etc. I've been where you are at and really I not that far removed either, trust yourself don't be scared...

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......
