l&r works for me!

Hit the range with the TC Hawken today with the new L&R lock...

5 shots with a PRB...50yds off the bench (one ball hit the tack holding my sticker...that's the splatter you see..)

3 shots with PRB at 50yds off the bench with old powder..I don't like to hunt with mixed powder so when I hit the end of a can I dump them together. That was shot with my special blend lol..2f and 3f...I didn't expect it to be so consistent lol...shot just a smidge left..

I am happy with the lock...it goes off nice..put 12-15 shots through it and didn't have a single issue...even in a strong wind where I've had issues before...

Now to get a white lightning installed!

Re: l&r works for me!

Now all I can think about is flintlock hunting...and it JUST ended!

I swear there is something addicting about black powder..

Had I not broke my jag I'd probably still be sitting there shooting!

Gotta go clean the rifle now..

I'm gunna continue to shoot it often...I wanna see how proficient I can get with it...I wanna learn to shoot free hand...to the point where a deer doesn't stand a chance within a certain range...increasing ignition time needs to be done first...

I wonder shoot at deer free hand...

My buck this year was the closest...I was sitting on a dirt mound and couldn't rest on my knee to shoot him..I held my elbow on my thigh and got as solid as I could..it worked...

Of course my buddies were busting my chops about shooting today lol...but the one missed like 12-15 times this season...THAT is why I practice...I fired 3 rounds this season and have 3 deer in the freezer...

And that's why I keep tinkering with my rifle...

Simply buying a flintlock and some powder is a recipe for disaster...that's why misses, misfires, hangfires, flashes in the pan etc happen...

Today I played around with cleaning/not cleaning/priming etc...

Still shocked that a mixed powder shot so dang well lol...that was probably remnants of 5 different cans..goes and schuetzen..2f and 3f lol...

I've always been funny on that..I worry about one pound being "hotter" than another...but I've never noticed any difference when switching...

Re: l&r works for me!

Good to know there are more than adequate replacement locks for the TC.

Re: l&r works for me!

take that TC out this summer and hunt woodchucks. you and the gun will be fine tuned by fall and you will have the time of your life! my goal this year is 100 with my 32 cal and hopefully some with the new rifle I'm building. 100 is a big number, but I think it can be done.

Re: l&r works for me!

I've killed 2 Groundhogs with it one summer...

I suspect More to fall to it this summer... Been a while since I've gotten to do any serious ghog hunting!

Standby for the pic...

I was doing a pictorial but got so frustrated I quit lol...
