the fun begins!

my last rifle build was 25 years ago, but today the parts starting coming for my new build. made a separate area in my shop, with its own bench to keep it away from everything else and to make it easier to work on whenever I want. I have also been acquiring the extra tools I need to get it done. it should be an interesting next few months.

Re: the fun begins!

may be a competition. I built one in 1969. took me 2 years to finish it. Tick licker 45 caliber. I'm maybe starting one more before I croak.

I'm so far behind I think I'm in first place.

Re: the fun begins!

Keep us up-dated on your progress. Are you starting with a blank or a pre-inletted stock? It is a great project with many moments of triumph and frustration, but it seems to work out in the end somehow. It is time-consuming with many, many hours spent, but pulling the trigger for the first time on a home-made flinter makes it all worthwhile.

Take your time and good luck!

Re: the fun begins!

yes it is pre-inletted(and we'll see just how much when it gets here). yes, a lot of work and time will be spent. everything is a cast finish and needs to be finished. but, its worth it in the end to have a gun that is exactly what you want and having the satisfaction of doing it all yourself.

Re: the fun begins!

I hope to start my 1st one in the next couple months. So far I've been assembling/making the tools I need and gathering reference material. Should be ordering the kit in a a month or two. Looking forward to it

Re: the fun begins!

Good luck with your first build. The best advise I can offer is to never rush a step. We're all anxious to hold a finished rifle, but don't rush to get to that point, and don't hesitate to ask for help. There are professional builders here, and those of us who do it as a hobby. We've all hit snags in the building process, and we've all had help getting past the problems when they arise.

Thank you for your service.

Id like to do this in the future as well. Be sure and put some pictures up as you progress towards a finished rifle!

Re: the fun begins!

Good luck with your build, blackpowder. As Berks stated, keep us updated with your build.

It sounds like you made a nice choice in rifles with the Edward Marshall and the caliber. Good luck.
