bear sign?

I was hunting around a corn field yesterday and saw a huge pile of chewed up/thrown up corn. Probably between a half gallon and a gallon worth of stuff. Someone told me bears will sometimes gorge themselves on corn and then throw up. Any truth to this? The picture I took is very blurry and wouldn't help the discussion.

Re: bear sign?

Never heard of this, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Re: bear sign?

Treestand, it wasn't scat. I know the difference and it didn't come from the backend of any animal. It look like a large pile of vomitted corn.

Re: bear sign?

Yes, they will do that. Bears will gorge on anything, and in turn can throw it up. Some of my fondest memories from working on the fawn mortality study are of digging through piles of bear puke, looking for previously attached deer ear tags

I think I'm an alright guy, I think I'm alright

Re: bear sign?

I've found it with deer meat in the puke before. My guess is you found a good spot for bear. When I found it with deer meat, it didn't even look that chewed up but like pieces of steak just thrown back up

Re: bear sign?

Thanks Borden and Jayden. This particular pile didn't appear to be chewed or digested. The bear made it about 3 feet from the corn field before it vomitted.

Re: bear sign?

My father saw a sow and two cubs on Wednesday 3PM while small game hunting. They were working over the corn field!
