Re: potter co. mast

Cherries were plentiful but dropped early...back in August.

Red Oaks were pretty good, chestnut oaks average to better than average, and white oaks very spotty.

Beech was pretty much a failure this year.

Re: potter co. mast

I hunt bears out of a camp on Keating Summit, about 6 or 7 miles from Austin.

As you go south of Austin through Costello down to Wharton you pick up more oak type forest, especially on the south facing slopes.

North of Austin you get more cherry/maple/beech.

Lots of great bear hunting country up there. The cherry/maple/beech areas are full of great clearcuts on the state forests and the thick laurel/rhododendron sidehills with oak also hold bears.

Good luck!
