We had a terrific hunt in Colorado last week.
This is the sixth time that we have hunted with this RFW outfitter in the last 14 years.
With the drought and it was extremely dry, a good number of the elk had left the property in search of more moisture.
Bugling was pretty steady but not as intense as we have heard in other years.
At dusk on the second day, I took this great 6x while sitting on a water hole. Janie was a thrilled as I was.
He came in dogging a cow and gave me a nice 175 yard shot.
I had seen a few 5x's and a decent 6 earlier in the day but decided not to put a stalk on them as I had seen this guy in the spotting scope at over 600 yards that morning.
4 of the 5 hunters in camp took bulls, with 1 hunter holding out and not taking any of the 5 points he saw.
Here is the best bull takem scoring 344 by a guy from Utah
A young hunter and his first bull, a nice 5x
His dad was thrilled.
A fella from Georgia took this solid 6x just before we left
Dry Dry Dry (antelope)
Going in after the 344
It was a tough spot, we all pitched in
All hooked up, They put some kind of harness on the bull's head to hook him to the quad and pulled him out after we cut our way into him.
The people who run the outfit are big on community service and all the succesful hunters and guides went down the local food pantry and helped unload a trailer of donated food. We also each donated a portion of our elk to help the needy.
It was a great hunt and Janie has booked her first elk hunt for 2014.
I'll be picture guy then.
