bear hit in Beaver county

I just got a call from a friend who drives for UPS. He hit a bear around 3AM while working. The bear got up and took off limping. He hit it on I 376 where 376 crosses the turnpike ( Big Beaver) in the south bound lane. The PGC was notified.

Re: bear hit in Beaver county

Never seen so many reports of local Bear on the news than I have this year. Seems like every other day. Pretty sure they are no longer just "passing through" here in SW PA, and we are starting to see a definite meaningful population being established.

BTW. Doesn't surprise me it was a UPS driver. Our UPS driver is the fastest vehicle on our dirt road.

I think there is something like 5 resident bears in the county at this time.

I almost hit one with my truck a few years ago in Center Twsp. It was a small one, probably around 100lbs

Re: bear hit in Beaver county

found the following pretty intersting regarding the bear that was in Sears in Pittsburgh Mills.

Cambria County WCO Seth Mesoras said a recent incident in Pittsburgh with a bear walking into a Sears store turned out to be a bear from Cambria County. “On June 6, I originally caught and radio-collared the bear in Portage and released it in Cambria County,” he said. “It then traveled to Grove City before turning towards Pittsburgh and ending up in Sears. The bear was a yearling female and was unharmed and released back in Cambria County.”
