PA Elk Rut

I just wanted to know when the rut usually starts for the elk in PA. My son and I would like to go and listen to the hills exploding with the sound of bugles.

Re: PA Elk Rut

You can start to hear them at the end of August. I think it peaks in the middle of September. Be ready to fight HUGE crowds on the weekends. Try early morning or late evening.

Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.

Re: PA Elk Rut

Best time would be the last week of Sept/first week of Oct.

Re: PA Elk Rut

We went up the 3rd week of September last year. Saw good action and the crowds were not overly bad. It was busy but we never had an issue finding a place to park or view.

Re: PA Elk Rut

I was up there a couple of years ago on a Wednesday in the middle of September. Only a few people around but the bulls were going nuts! Unfortunately, there was heavy fog that morning and only saw a couple of elk.

The horizon is your starting point.
