I don't think they're letting it get out of control. With all the new season they're doing what they can.

Define what you mean by out of control.... Sure there may be some nuisance bears and more bear sightings but I personally wouldnt say it is out of control. Maybe more opportunity to harvest a bear?????

I like their extended liberal seasons where there is an abundance of bears. I know what my plans are for bear archery already!

Out of control?how? More people less area, they are bound to intermingle. Gotta be careful with garbage and bird feeders etc.... They were here before us.

Re: Why is the PGC letting the bear population

They were here before us is the worst excuse Ive ever heard. I wanted to smash my phone the night the local PGC dispatcher told me that followed by I needed to learn how to deal with it. This is after a bear scratched the side of my new truck as it tried to climb into the EMPTY bed for some reason.

They seriously need to come up with a new slogan...

Take a kid hunting, it's the future of our sport and the future is now!

Consider moving somewhere black bears don't habitate. Panama maybe?

Re: Why is the PGC letting the bear population

Ace, I'm curious to know if your vehicle was parked in an area that bears are common or ocasional?
I live in an area that bears are common and have not had problems with them. Most people that I know that have had problems have created the problems by not taking the precautions that the PGC advises in their publications.

I'm not suggesting that is your case.

The PGC has done a lot to control the populations in areas that have a lot of good habitat for bears and few people. We've had an extended season here for 9 seasons. We'll have it again this year, because they want to keep our bears from dispersing into areas like Wilkesbarre, Scranton and Williamsport. Over a year ago, I suggested that they set a perimeter around the areas you don't want a population and hunt them whenever any deer season is open. It looks like someone at the PGC listened. Maybe next year they'll extend the season around the cities in our area. It never made sense to me that the extended season only occured in places bears belong.
