Big Boy From Lycoming County

Iíve seen lots of bears, but this one is the largest live bear Iíve ever seen.

In an attempt to try and get some perspective, Iíve pasted pics of me into the pics of the bear. The pics were taken off of the porch of the cabin.

The bear pics were taken in mid-June, so he had another 5 months to put on more weight before season Ė was he ever taken Ė I have no idea.

The pics of me were taken this past March. I tried to size them so as to align the trees, the rock, and our camp signpost (on the center right at the end of the driveway). Itís not perfect or exact, but I believe itís very close.

Iím about 5í10Ē Ė 188 lbs. Standing with me is my 105 lb. Lab.

So, any guesses?

Oh I like guessing the weight, of photo bears, no way to lose. My guess is-------------587#'s plus 140#'s by fall gives you a total of 727#'s. Never the less it a biggin.

Re: Big Boy From Lycoming County

I was guessing 400-450. It always amazes me how quiet bears can be.

It was late afternoon and I was standing on the ground by the porch filling Coleman lanterns and never heard this guy approaching from behind. I only heard one faint snap of a twig, turned around, and he was standing 25 feet away. He hung around for a couple of minutes and then just walked away.

He was back again at 8:00 AM the next morning. This time he stayed around for 15-20 minutes as we watched him from the porch. He sat there swatting at some flies buzzing his face and at one point he even laid down. Perhaps another camp was feeding him because it almost seemed like he was waiting for a handout. I suppose he finally realized he wasnít getting anything and ambled on down the driveway, stood up and rubbed his back on a tree (but didnít claw it), and then continued down the lane.

Re: Big Boy From Lycoming County

I'm to say 350-400 lb's... For a bear to become a giant he need's a little lenght, which this guy seem's to be lacking.. But in any case definately a nice bear and I'd clasify him as a shooter.. Good Luck with him come Nov.

425ish...wait until bear season and this guy will have put on some weight.
We got a bear a few years back tagged numerous times as a nuisance bear. In two years it put on about 100 pounds...things are unreal.
