Re: Bear hunting anyone?

I have a camp just outside of Oil City Pa., Iím currently looking people with an interested in bear hunting, specifically driving bears that do not have a place to go. Over the past few years the number of people attending bear camp at my place has drastically dropped off, mostly due to the physically demanding mature of driving bears. Which is the chosen method behind our madness. As of right now myself and a buddy will be staying at my camp, there will be four others meeting us at camp that live locally. This will be our 7th year of hunting bear season from my camp; weíve killed two bears, and saw a third bear. So our success rate has been fairly decent.

The nuts and bolts:

1. Weíll head up on Friday November 18th, hunt Saturday the 19th, play some cards (normally just holdem a friendly $5.00 game or two to pass the time) drink a few beers on Sunday the 20th, and hunt Monday the 21st leaving at the end of the day.
2. Iíll make a menu, purchase all of the food, and we will split the bill equally. If not then we typically end up with way to much food or someone complaining that they did more than the next person.
3. Youíll need money for food & cards, personal hygiene products, hunting gear, a sheet, pillow, and sleeping bag. A four wheel drive would be a plus to assist hauling hunters. B.Y.O.B, a cooler with ice for you beer.
4. We have three plots of posted/leased land to hunt one with 2000 acres, the second with 1000 acres in another, and the third has 300 acres. If you are looking for location to hunt on your own in the future this would not be the hunt for you as these are all leased properties.
5. If you do not like cops, this might not be the group for you to make friends with.

Iím looking for serious inquiries only, if you have an interest but are not 100% please do not tell me that you will be there then back out last minute as you may be taking a spot away from someone else. Keeping that in mind, once again in the past few years it has been a struggle just to get a few people together to head up, do not be shy. If thereís an interest shoot me a PM, Iíll answer them in the order they are received. Please keep in mind this is a physically demanding hunt and is not a hunt for younger hunters or older hunters.

I'm not looking for anythign in return, just good times, with good people. A good scenes of humor is a must.

That's a great offer! If you were closer I'd jump on that. Anyone in the Lycoming County area have an opening?

Re: Bear hunting anyone?

The first few years I was turning people down we just did not have the room. Now I just can't get a group together large enough to drive areas out. I have a fair place with a shower, inside toiled, nothing special but a nice camp in a great area. Thereís plenty of hunting opportunity with a fair success rate. Even with these posts I have received very few responses a couple form people in the area with camp that have an interest in come along. Which is great! But it would be nice to have a few people around to play some cards and enjoy the camp atmosphere of it.

Then don't go... Heck my camp in wellsboro, we've gotten 2 shot, seen 4 others since like 2001 or something like that. Not always about "the odds". And this year they could end up with a state or even world record black bear. And when they do, we'll all come back to this post and say how about them odds?

I tell ya, if I could, I'd jump on that boat. Coming from a family of cops (father is lead patrol SGT, brother is patrolman for our local town dept) definately would be a good time regardless of bears seen/shot!

Re: Bear hunting anyone?

1st year we put up 5 bears and shot one by 2:00Pm. The second year, I shot one the first drive, we then hunted until noon and spent the rest of the day a enjoying the moment. Year three was uneventful. Years four and five only two people came up. Year six we pushed one right past my buddy on the 1st drive of the morning. Again not many people came up or thereís a very good chance that bear would have been down as well. Year seven is this year, so we are running at 50%. With the limited amount of people weíve had the last few years Iíll take those odds bear hunting in PA.

We got pictures of 7 different bears possibly 8 on just the 2000 acre leased property this year alone. Thatís just what I know about on one section of property. That 1000 acre plot has is new to us but has some great potential.

To be honest for me bear season is more about going to camp, having a good time, and creating memories. I just thought it might be nice to meet some new people as well and share the experience. Iím a fanatical outdoorsman I rotate my year between what hot and what not I hunt, trap, and fish all year long.

The cop thing was just a heads up as Iím a cop, two of my buddies that live there and will be meeting us at camp are troopers. I just did not want someone showing up with a baggy saying hey lets party, as they would be in for a surprise.

If thereís an interest shoot me a PM, if not thatís okay too. As I understand others have done better than we have in their outdoor adventures. We still have plenty of open beds if thereís an interest.

Re: Bear hunting anyone?

Those are great odds snapper! I agree bear camp is about the hanging around camp. I have a camp in armstrong and we pack them in. But I still get will we see a bear. I say no not a chance (so there is no expectations) but you will have a great time!
