enough gun?

this will be my first year actualy chasing bear. i have .50 cal inline and an 870 slug gun. would this be enough gun for bear? prolly use the inline while sitting and the slug gun when out bustin brush. the only other bigger cal gun i have is a 30/30 figured thatd be alittle to light?

Re: enough gun?

My opinion, all three would work fine.

Re: enough gun?

Use the .30-.30. The slug will be okay at close range I guess but not very accurate (unless you have a rifled barrel, etc.). The .30-.30 is plenty of of gun for bear. What is most important is shot placement and I would imagine the .30-.30 will be the most accurate (although I am not very familiar with inlines). The .30-.30 is a more efficient cartridge than a slug and will do a better job than a slug.

Re: enough gun?

I don't agree that the 30-30 will do a better job than the slug, at least not at short range. With that said the .30-30 is adequate.

Re: enough gun?

Agree, the slug is a very effective gun. I get great groups out to 150 yds. Never really felt a need to go past that. That being said the 30/30 is a awesome gun for bear and will do the job, I own 2 30/30's and not a bad thing to say about them. My advice would be to use what you are most comfortable with because all three will do the job and good luck.

Re: enough gun?

i have personally killed a few bears with a 3030.the one a few years ago was 600 plus lbs.and our gang has had bears fall 4 years in a row now with a 3030.i'm also sure the inline would work however you would not be able to take a follow up shot fast enough if needed which you probably will.good luck
