Allegheny National Forest (ANF) Bear Kill Map

From the ANF website: 2017/2018 data
Make sure you read the opening disclaimer - especially the first short paragraph - to understand the information shown. Clicking on a kill site provides additional information for that particular bear kill.
Note that some kills are on lands surrounding the national forest.

kswiggy: If you zoom out, you'll see all bears killed that were brought to the 3 check stations. For instance: bears killed in Clarion County, Erie County, etc

Funny...one area of high density kills is the perimeter of the ANF, with the exception of the eastern border. I'm guessing the eastern border isn't very populated (people wise). Shows the bears prefer areas where they can access food source opportunity provided by human habitat?

The interior of the ANF appears to have a much lower harvest density. Less bears or less hunters?

This is interesting, but if the PGC ever tries to produce a statewide map similar to this, I know one hunter that will not accurately place their dot on the map.

Iím a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

It all may be nothing to worry about Bigbear if the proposal to do away with check stations becomes a reality.

Less hunters in the deeper woods yes but also in the early season the bears were in the farm areas, corn fields and not in the traditional bear kill areas.

Listen, or your tongue will make you deaf.

"When a pine needle falls in the forest, the eagle sees it, the deer hears it, and the bear smells it."
