I haven't been on here in a while so I figured i'd post this now. I finally harvested my first pa black bear this year with my inline. game commission estimated live weight at 481. I weighed it dressed on a registered cattle scale and it was 445. I thought/assumed when I gutted it that there was more than 36lbs of guts in it...
That's a beauty. Congratulations on a great PA trophy. I always go with the Game Commissions numbers because that's what's documented on the certificate. However, our check station has a digital scale. I saw a pic on HPA of scale being used that looked like it was from the 40's. Not sure how they calibrate that thing.
Nice bruin, ex cousin. LOL And yes I'd say definitely more than 36 lbs of entrails. Don't know how accurate that method they use in the early season of just measuring them with a tape to get weight is.
If it was 445 dressed, 525 would be your estimated live weight. 18% of your dressed is what they add to get your estimated live weight. So 80lbs of entrails is roughly what you would have removed.
