.........killed in 1963 by Dad!! Well it's been a dry run for my camp since then. I was just 11 & too young to join Dad on that memorable Sullivan County bear hunt. Dad wasn't planning on going but his factory closed on that Monday for JFK's funeral so he headed North. Dad killed his bear deep into SGL 134 Camp Mountain years before access road/lot was constructed. He gutted bear & put his ole piano drag strap on bear & it didn't move so he knew he needed help. Dad was 6'2' 250lbs and strong as an ox but the dead weight of this hog humbled him. He was approx 2-3 miles back in & needed help getting his bear out which Don Barbor PA local Hillsgrove DCNR Forester & Levi Whippo PGC Warden took a jeep back in & helped Dad get his bear out. Dad said they had chainsaws to help clear a way back in. Each bear season memories of my dear Dad's bear hunt vividly comes to mind so thought I'd share. I lost my dear Dad(best friend hunting fishing partner) to pancreatic cancer in 1987 when he was just 53 years old. I will be out there again this season again hoping Dad will push one past me.
