Winslow Battle Wounds

BIG elk brawl on Winslow Hill this morning. I arrived at day break to intense bugling and the crashing of massive antlers as two huge elk went at it about 400 yds out in early morning valley fog. I did not have landowner permission to close the gap for pictures so all I could do was watch and listen. It was an incredible show! Multiple bulls(someone said 9) were in the same area and it sounded like all were bugling. The antlers crashing together was an incredible sound and it wasn't just a quick fight. They were at it for quite a while. At one point I thought things had calmed down and drove over to the Visitor's Center to see if anything else was happening. Nothing so back to where the elk were and they were crashing antlers again. While the big boys were at it smaller bulls would dash away with some of the cows. It was an eventful morning.

Just before lunch I came across this bull laying in the shade of the woods. He looked whipped. Exhausted with a bit of blood coming from his nose. I would imagine he was one of the bulls in the brawl this morning. I just wonder how many in total were at it.

Re: Winslow Battle Wounds

Wow! Probably a cow in heat in the area. Hopefully the old boy will rest up and come around.
