I agree, there is so much private land you will probably need a guide if you dont have the opportunity to go scout.

According the harvest maps for elk, it looks like the vast majority were taken along rt 555. I would start talking people along that corridor for permission.

Re: holy cow zone 10

yeah, my situation is 18 month old baby at home, full time job monday thru friday and live in allegheny county so scouting is mostly out as time is short. never hunted this area before and dont know anyone around. i have a camper i could stay in and dont care about how well i eat. i'm 35 i think, and in normal condition so ready for anything. i'm trying to digest all this info fast..i wld love to go up 1 weekend to scout and look around/talk to folks and see where it ends up. thanks everyone..this hunt is for the everyday working dad who just loves to get out and enjoy the hunt.

I hunted zone 10 last year with ECO and they were great. I would highly recommend using ECO or any guide for zone 10 mostly because of all the private property. Give Jack a call you will not regret it.

I would also give a hearty recommendation for ECO. I hunted with them in Zone 2 during the 2009 season with my cow tag. At the time I was an old man who needed a hernia operation and could not have done it without them. That being said, I've had the operation but I'm still an old man and I would use them again in a heartbeat.
