I saw it when you posted it on the 'Fire. A lot of them guys were amazed at the crowds the bear check stations draw in.

Re: 2010 PA Bear Season..at the check station

The check station at Antes Fort across the road for the NC region office of the PGC gets VERY crowded. They even set up bleachers for the spectators and the fire company sells food!

Most people who arent familiar with PA's bear season are shocked at the amount of bear taken in the short season, and the number of people who attend check stations.

Re: 2010 PA Bear Season..at the check station

I took my bear in '98 and we went to the check station in Trout Run it was a circus (not out of hand) but the amount of people there and strangers crawling all around my pick-up trying to get their kids a better look. It's a pretty good thing for some of the local volunteer fire depts. that hold them.

Re: 2010 PA Bear Season..at the check station

Not only good for the locals, but families who spend thanksgiving week together, either at home or camp. I see the looks in the young kids eyes every year. Hoping one day themselves to be able to harvest a PA bear. Ive seen people, kids and adults, that have never hunted before suddenly have an interest. I have a ball every year, and wouldnt have it any other way. Absolutely love it!

I think it's great. I'm just tired of being an observer, I want to be there to have my Bear checked! Maybe this year.

Re: 2010 PA Bear Season..at the check station

Thanks for the encouragement. This fall will be 40 years afield for me. I just keep going and figure it only takes a few seconds to get lucky. Just once I would like to get a Pa. Bear.
