Ive decided to give it another shot after a horrendous 2010 season with the first 3 days spent in the delaware water gap high atop Kitanny mountain on the Warren county side. It was a very cold opener. We stayed in a campground that had cabins and ours had to be the one with no heat except for a tiny tiny woodstove. It was freezing in that place. We had 5 guys hunting with only 1 bear sighted by my pop. I scouted 2 weekends in a row in october having never been to the area before and found plenty of bear sign. By the time the season rolled around it was only a week after muzzeloader and to say the entire area was barren was an understatement. There are no hiding spots in jersey when it comes to trying to get away from other hunters. Our crew was 2 miles from the nearest paved road there were still plenty of pressure. Not a single deer was seen.
This year we have 6 guys going and were going farther north into sussex county. Ill make 2 scouting trips and hope for the best.
I may give it a shot this year if I have time.Doing 2 trips to Montana so who knows yet.If they really wanted to take a serious number of bears, they'd open it a bit earlier IMO.I thought Pa had a late season but theirs is what, 2-3 weeks later
