Getting Beyond Beach Cruising for Black Bears
Most guides will cruise, looking for a bear that is on the beach, with a good drop off point downwind. If the bear goes in the woods when it sees the boat, the guide will just keep cruising. This works early in the season and for bears that are first timers on the beach. It also works for sows and for small bears that have not been stalked before. Experienced bears, the largest ones, usually go in the woods at the first change of speed or direction. Hunters who conduct successful stalks on these savvy big bears, use a repertory of tricks based on their knowledge of how the bears will act under pressure. Alaska Black Bear Stalkers is updating its Hunting Tips pages and welcomes tips and comments.
