I posted a story of the illegal killing of 3 bears (mother + 2 cubs) out of a den in dec. 2008 in northern Clearfield County during the second day of bear season. Clearfield WCO Dave Carlini handled the case from start to finish. As I said then I was very impressed with the forensic training these officers recieve to help build a case as well as the dedication to get the job done.
2 years later after being found guilty of the charges, then appealling those guilty pleas, then agreeing to the terms of the guilty plea Im happy to say that justice was served. WCO Carlini called me in January of this year to give me the good news. 3 guilty pleas along with fines and suspensions.
I will say this. It was kind of a pain having to travel to Clearfield to testify from Philly but in the end well worth it.
It all started with gunshots very close to me and backtracking a blood trail to a densite!
I remember when that happened.Good job Joe.I turned my neighbor in for poaching a bunch of deer a few years ago and the WCO's did a relentless job closing that case.WCO Carlini helped out with that one as well.
Thanks Guys and Gal! Really when it happened I was more [censored] off than anything because it was such a waste.
The very next day (last day of bear season) I was hunting solo in the shell pile off medix run rd when I cut a monster bear track in the fresh snow that had fallen the night before over the old snow. I trailed this bear for a good 3 hours sometimes in drifts over deadfalls at least 3 feet deep. I finally caught up with him on the side of a moutain. The trail into a deadfall. I could see the outer edges of the hole glazing over from the bears breath. I had a bout an hour of daylight left and at least a mile walk back to my truck. I backed up slowly and left him alone to sleep out the winter. I always wonder if anybody ever got him or if he is still roaming those hills.
