How big is this bear?

Any one got any idea how big this bear is? I've seen some at the check stations around 300 lbs. and this one looks considerably larger. Maybe it's because the others were dead and this one was alive that it looks larger. I'm interested in all opinions.

This is a one lane road, two cars can pass if both really hug the grass, if that helps.

Re: How big is this bear?

Its hard to tell but its ears appear to be rather small in relation to the head and they are kind of down on the side of the head and not on top. I'ad say its a young adult - maybe 3 years old. Nice looking bugger!

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: How big is this bear?

IMO, a Bear in the 300-400lb. range is a tuff call? Under 3 or over 400 is much easier. What I look at is how far his belly is from the ground. Young or small bear's look like the legs are to long. If you can get a good head picture look for his ears to be small and far apart. Young or small bear seem to have bigger ears. This one in your picture will be a shooter come Bear season for many hopefully you!!! I've seen some nice sows with a couple cubs about this size. To get a bear from 450 or so to 5 or 600 takes a while with good food around, like the one last year in the Pocono's that was on a good donut diet, and a sweet tooth. Bear in areas around dumps, feeder's,road kill GC dumps grow better and faster. Vegatation, Grubs,Acorn,Fish takes some time. If he's a Perry Co. bear I'm thinkin he's doin ok and if your out in bear season I'm gonna say you'll take him.. Good Luck and let us know his weight when you gettem. He'll seem like a 600lb'er when you drag him...later

Re: How big is this bear?

It wasn't in Perry County but it was about 1/2 mile from where I bear hunt. I hope to see it in the fall.

Re: How big is this bear?

He is a nice one. My guess, that is all it is, is 350 plus. I am usually pretty good at guessing at the check station.

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!
