Slugs in the Garden

I've been noticing that some of the leaves are starting to get chewed up in my garden. I've found several slugs on different plants and threw down some slug bait to hopefully kill them. I've had them in the past and the slug bait didn't seem to work too well. Does anyone have any tricks to use to help get ride of them? I don't feel like walking around and salting them every morning!

I would reccomend using Iron City as the slug beer.

Absolutely, everyone I knew that drank Iron City was a slug.

My ability to remember lyrics from songs of the 60's far exceed my ability to remember why I walked into the kitchen

You can try putting down a few flat boards for them to hide under. Turn the boards over in the morning for the birds to have a snack.

Re: Slugs in the Garden

Beer traps work well. Here is another tip that doesn't waste beer and is beneficial to the plants;
Save egg shells and crush them up. Spread the crushed shells around the plants and the slugs won't crawl over the shells to get to the plants. As the shells break down and decompose (eventually) they add calcium to the soil which helps the plants, especially tomatoes and peppers. Added calcium prevents blossom end rot.
