Has anyone ever had a problem with zucchini rotting on the vine? Plants are huge and look great. Lots of blossoms on the plant as well. Once the zucchini get 4 or 5 inches long, the blossom end just rots and the whole thing falls off. I've never had this before and was hoping someone could help.
ya sounds like blossom end rot. its caused by too much rain washing the calcium out of the soil. pretty common in weather like we been having. same thing happens with tomatoes and peppers. by the time you see it, its too late. they sell stuff to spray on the plants but i never used it. i had the problem big time a few years ago and starting putting gypsum in the soil when i planted. its a real good idea to get your soil tested too to see what it is lacking.
I had the same problem the last two years. I had two plants last year. They grew huge. I sprayed with the end rot solution every 2 weeks. I ended up getting 6 Zuzzhini all year. I planted them in a different spot this year and I will be harvesting 6 already this week.
I have it happening right now. I don't believe it's from too much rain, we haven't had a drop at the house in over 2 weeks and I've only watered sparingly, every couple days. It has happened to me the last 3-4 years now, but usually after the first couple fruits drop off, the plants settle in and take off, producing way more zuchs than needed. I tried the end rot spray to no avail.
I was having the same problem,i only got 3 zucchinis out of 9 of the healthiest plant i ever grown.I started popping the flowers of the end when they got about 3 to 4 inches long and they are started to producing now.I don't know for sure if it was from popping the flowers off or they just stated producing on their own but its worth trying.
What you don't see with your eyes, don't invent with your mouth.
