Help with mushroom ID

Can anybody tell me what kind of mushroom this is and whether it is edible? It is solid on the bottom and about 6" in diameter.

A puffball beyond eating stage.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Re: Help with mushroom ID

I'm finding some like that in the back yard as big or bigger than my fist. They are growing on the lawn, next to the corn feild, around the apple tree.
Most of them are still firm and white inside.
I just ate a slice of one and it tasted good.
I hope it is a good one.

Something to keep in mind for future mushroom edibility experiences. "Eat, then Hope" is not the combo you want to strive for.
