Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

If this rain keeps up, I think they would be tarting to pop up soon. I usually see my first ones around the end of August/beginning of September.

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

I read you should not pick them if they are on a pine or hemlock tree. Is that true?

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

Found about a dozen different trees with them growing last weekend. Some were fresh some were getting old. Picked a few pounds.

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

True, for whatever reason the ones growing on evergreens can make you sick. Stick to the ones on hardwoods, and you'll be fine.

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

Went out looking on a new piece of property the other night. Found a few small ones just getting started. Hopefully they'll be bigger when I go back.

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

I found one back on June 8th. Pretty early. It was a pretty big one also.

Re: Sulfur Mushroomshur

They've been here in central pa for a little more than a month. If they're pale and stiffer it usually means bugs or old age or both. The young ones, 3 to 5 silver dollar sized bodies, are the choicest one in my opinion. I tend to find them more on western facing slopes. I have eaten sulfur shelf from pine and it is more sinewy or fibrous, didn't make me sick but why risk it in the future. Good hunting to all!
