picking edibles on National Forest & SGL

Every year I hear remarks/rumors that it illegal to pick leeks and such on Allegheny National Forest, game lands and state forest. What is the real story???

Think before you share your thoughts!!!

Re: picking edibles on National Forest & SGL

State Game lands it's illegal.

State Forest/DCNR, it's legal to pick only enough for personal use/consumption, something like equal to a gallon.

As for the ANF I have no idea, but do believe it's legal to harvest mushrooms/wild edibles in most National Forests but I wouldn't even consider harvesting in a National Park.

I been told by DCNR that a gate locked in the open position doesn't mean it's open to travel by vehicle unless it actually has specific signage stating it's open to travel. However it's not unusal but often comical to venture upon a DCNR employee tryin' to hide a fat gut and a brightly colored grocery sack behind a dying Ash/Elm etc.
