My apple tree leavs have yellow spots with a touch of orange in the spots. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to treat it. I would hate to loose the tree's. Thank you

Re: apple tree leaves have spots

Without a pic it is hard to say but, sounds like Cedar-Apple Rust. Treat with a fungicide in the spring every 7-10 days to help prevent the problem. I would still spray the trees with a fungicide now to help control the Rust. Any cedar trees near by should be removed as well to help control future infections.

If you enjoy hunting please find a way to give back to the sport. Our children will thank you.

Re: apple tree leaves have spots

If you live in an area that has cedar trees or other ornamental evergreen shrubs you may have Cedar apple rust.

Here is a statment from a gardening site.

Cedar Apple Rust - Cedar apple rust causes pale yellow, pinhead-sized spots on the upper surfaces of apple leaves. These spots enlarge and turn bright orange on foliage and fruit. This rust originates on nearby cedar trees, forming swellings, or galls, on their bark. Junipers and hawthorns can also spread cedar apple rust to apple trees. Spray apple trees with fungicide when cedar galls are releasing spores in the early spring. Remove all red cedar trees within 300 yards of the apple tree. Apple varieties resistant to Cedar Apple Rust include Liberty, Nova Easygro, Novamac, Priscilla, and Redfree.

Two trails split in the woods. I took the one less traveled! Where the heck am I?

Re: apple tree leaves have spots

Thank you kindly and i will take your advise and spray the trees. I only have a one young cedar tree within around 100 ft from the apple trees, My neighbor has a mature, fairly old one thru the woods within 300 yards though. In fact i took notice there 1 apple tree in front of there home looks like the leaves are turning brown & fading fast. thanks again
