Golden Chanterelle should be readily available in Penns woods come July. Hope we do get some rain ...I say SOME continued rain so it's a good season...

Re: The Golden Chaneterelle

Place about three or four of these Golden Chanterelle's in a quart Mason jar.. Pour in Vodka or Gin...Put the cap on...When the Chanterelle sink to the bottom....The Receipe is done...Pour the houch back into the orginial liquor bottle..You can use cheese cloth as a filter if you don't want bits and pieces of chanterelle in you vodka and or gin. You now created a sipping drink that taste like Apricots..Just Something you can play around with. Best to get a good brand of Vodka.. Maybe one of the Polish brands...When your done with the chanterelle...cook them with eggs or pizza or what ever...

Re: The Golden Chaneterelle

My 1 Brother who lives in Oregon, was home this weekend for his Son's Wedding....

We got to talking about Mushrooms and he mentioned he picked a good 200 pounds of Chaneterelles out in Oregon this spring...

He was telling us that he dried alot of them and has them in mason jars to use later....he went on to tell us how they cook them in Oregon...

They take a pan and put salt in the bottom of the pan, heat it up hot and throw in the Chaneterelles and start tossing them till all the water comes out of them, after the water comes out, they pour the water off and start adding meat and veggies to the pan and other spices and cook it...he said if any of us get some Chaneterelles to try it that way and we would like it better then tossing everything together and coming out with a major amount of liquid in it that it is almost like soup!

He was also telling us about all the other wild mushrooms they have out there and how a majority of them, there is a limit on how many you can gather and some mushrooms, you need a Permit/License to gather them for there is not many left due to many people gatheirng them in the past!

He said Chaneterelles are 1 of the over looked mushrooms in his area of Oregon and they out number the other mushrooms!

Re: The Golden Chaneterelle

Yes there is but it's easy to ID... It's called The Jack O Lantern...Now it doesn't grow on the forest floor like Chanterelles.. It grows on trees, stumps, wood.. So don't pick any of the golden mushrooms that grow on wood.. Also...the gills of the Jack O Lantern look like regular mushroom gills. Notice the gills on the Golden Chanterelle in the picture. Let me see if I can find a picture to post of a Jack O Lantern.. They aren't deadly but they will get you real sick. So much so that you probably have to have your stomach pumped..

Notice gills on both.. Also DON"t pick any mushrooms on WOOD!!!! Golden Chanterelles grow on the FOREST FLOOR!!!

Re: The Golden Chaneterelle

The four pictures below are all poisonous Jack-o-Lanterns and as the last picture clearly shows they do indeed grow on the ground....you can't be to careful with ID'ing any mushroom

Re: The Golden Chaneterelle

Ripnmax does make a very good point... If... there is a root from a tree under the ground... The Jack O Lanterns will appear to be on the ground...Now take a good look at the picture of the Chanterelle gills and Ripnmax picture of the Jack O Lantern Gills.. Notice how different the gills are.. The Jack O Lantern Gills look like regular mushroom gills...

What people need to do is join either the Eastern or the Western mushroom club so you learn the right way...

By the way the Jack O Lanterns...Glow in the dark too.. Hence the reason for the name Jack O Lantern..

Nope not yet! These thunder storms in SCPA are putting a damper on shrooming...Things look like they are improving with nice days...However we do need a good shower every now and then for the shrooms..
