Propper way to replant fruit tree clippings?

I have tried a few times with no success.
Can some one please explain the right way to take cuttings from an apple tree and get them to grow?
My gun club has what i believe to be a Lodi apple tree that I realy want to try and grow.
Any help?
thanks all,
Roland
