I need help.

About 6 years ago, I planted 4 green gala apple trees and 2 Red Anjou pear trees.
Two of my apple trees didn't make it. So now I have 2 of each. Up to this point, they do not produce much fruit. Maybe 5 apples and pears each and some years none.
I have been told that I need at least three of each tree. Is that true?
What can I do to get them to produce better or am I just expecting too much too early?

Re: I need help.

Sounds like you need to plant a few pollinaters for those trees. White blossom crab apple trees usually will pollinate most varietys of apples if you have one nearby but I chose to just pick another type of apple and another type of pear to plant nearby.

Re: I need help.

Your fine! there should be other apple trees in your area for pollination, At 6 years old. You are just at the beginning of the fruit producing years(depending on how big they were when you planted them) give it a few more years, I would also plant 2-4 trees every year . tree loss is a un avoidable problem. it happens to the best of us. Usually it's the [censored] Voles that get me.
