Ginseng

Any get any good roots yet?

I was out looking a little this weekend. Found some small ones but I may have been beaten to the bigger roots.

Re: Ginseng

I found about 20 good ones so far but found close to 50 about the size of your picture. Going out again next weekend. Good luck

See several small ones. Unfortunately many people dig them that size...

Yes, it's pretty sad. The patch in the first picture I've known about for a few years now. There were 2 larger plants that produced seeds for a couple of years and I left them go because I wanted their offspring to get larger and produce seed before I picked them. Obviously, someone beat me to them last year and these little ones have yet to produce any seed.

Re: Ginseng

hi wanted to start looking for ginseng and this may be a dumb question I started looking around my property and found and identified the Virginia creeper but I also have plants that look like ginseng that are about two feet tall and have four and five prongs but I am not sure if its ginseng because they have tiny thorns and I have not read or heard that they can have thorns, the leaves are 5 with two small ones and look just like ginseng any help would be appreciated

I got some seeds from a guy that hunts Ginseng and I planted some in a nearby woodlot. I hope it works out, but I guess I wont know for a couple years.

Hunting: 10% skill and 90% location.
