My little pets

This has been the best year ever for my little fenced in sanctuary. The majority of these are between 10 and 15 years old. They have never produced seeds like they have this year.

For scale...... I wear size XXL gloves.

Re: My little pets

They're likely pretty healthy.

Hoping to be moving in the forseeable future. I had toyed with the idea of digging them this fall.......... Haven't made up my mind yet.

Re: My little pets

Nice. I always heard September was when they got the berries on them. Are they early this year or is august about the right time ?

Re: My little pets

This is the typical time of year for the berry pods.......wild or in my fence. My gals are starting to yellow up a bit too. 'Seng is one of the first woodland plants to die back.

Re: My little pets

Do you fertilize them? They look a lot healthier than mine. I bought a lot of seed advertised in Fur Fish and Game. They looked moldy when I received them this spring. I planted them and none came up. I have a few that are about 4 years old but very spindly.

Re: My little pets

It's very good soil. I hit them with a little gypsum from time to time.

Your seed should be planted in the fall. Usually from about Labor Day on.......whenever there's good moisture. They will then sprout in the spring.
