asparagus question

I started some asparagus from seed, and in the 5 foot by 3 foot area that i planted i might have 10-15 seedlings max, My question is, does one asparagus plant only ever have one shoot or do more shoots come up from the roots in later years?
thanks.

Re: asparagus question

You'll get a bunch of shoots after the plants get older.

I'm so far behind I think I'm in first place.

Re: asparagus question

Thank you that is good to know. I know it will take a few years to produce eating size shoots, but it will be worth it.

Re: asparagus question

Planted from crowns I think they saw two years usually till you harvest them unless the crowns are old. My garden isn't so good must have taken us 5 years but been getting it ever since then. We love asparagus.

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!

Re: asparagus question

15 plants should be enough for a family. I planted 30 and its way too much for us. I mean waaaay too much. I give it away all summer. in 4-5 years you'll have all you could ever want.
