snake id?

I came across this snake during a long walk out from a wild brown trout stream. Pics were all taken with zoom on the camera, but as I gently nudged it with the tip of my rod I realized it was unfortunately dead. After searching through paherps.com and another website, I couldn't find a species even remotely close. It's head and tail were green, but its's body was a speckled neon blue, much brighter than the pics show. Any budding herpetologists out there with any idea what it is?

It looks to me that the color variation may be due to skin shedding.

Did you try to pick it up?? Had one last week play dead when I poked at it...when I went to pick it up it came back to life.

if it was cold out, it could have been alive. that snake looks pretty round to me. if they are dead, they tend to flatten out.
