Snake Identification (pics)

Hi folks. Would you please try to identify these 2 snakes that my brother found on a recent hike. I don't have any more info or pics so it might be tough. I have my opinion but I want to get your's. Thanks

Re: Snake Identification (pics)

pic #2 looks to have the tell tale triangular shaped head = copperhead. it appears to be the biggest copperhead that I have ever seen though. pic #1 is inconclusive since i cant see the head or tail.

It may be a poor choice of words but I am smart enough to understand what you meant.

Copperheads have a beautiful pattern. Do you know in what county the pics were taken?

Re: Snake Identification (pics)

Not only are those copperheads, but you can see in the first pic that at least the one is gravid. (pregnant) If you go back later in the summer depending where this location is, you will get to see little coppers with lime green tails basking with the mothers, that will last a couple days till she leads them underground. I spend my summmers assessing Timber Rattlesnakes Sites in Pa and once in a while the timbers and coppers are gestating together. It gives great photo opportunities.

Re: Snake Identification (pics)

Thanks guys. I thought the second one was a copperhead but I thought the first one looked too dark. Without seeing the head or tail I was guessing the first one was a rattler.

Very Very nice copperheads. The biggest I have ever seen. Could you just tell me what county that was in.
