Rattle snake

It seems like when ever I hike with my wife at camp in the summer we run into a least one snake. The time she came within a foot of stepping on this rattle snake. It didn't make a sound until I started to take a few pictures.

We also ran into this guy on another hike. I think he is a red-spotted newt.

Re: Rattle snake

It seems like I've been hearing more and more about rattlers. I spend all fall through spring turkey in the woods, but not too much during the summer. It's kinda making me reluctant to take my kids in the summer woods.... I know the chances of them getn bit are slim, but not sure how I'd handle being resonsible if my 9 or 11 year old did...
