Black-crowned Night-heron Rookery

So we usually go to Washington D.C. every Easter to visit my wife's family and we take the little guy to the various museums the Saturday before. Last year it was too cold to hit the zoo, but the weather was perfect this year. I was surprised to learn, because I had been there before, that was an active Black-crowned Night-heron rookery there and that it was actually there before the zoo was built. Although they are free ranging and migratory, the staff feeds them to distract them from stealing or disrupting the meals of the exhibit animals which have special diets. So I was able to get some shots of them when they were being fed. They just returned and were still a little skittish:
