Hit The Deck!

This fawn dropped like a ton of bricks when i startled it and it's mother while i was out hiking. I'm not a whitetail expert, but do those black marks, where antlers would grow, mean that it's a buck?

Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.

Re: Hit The Deck!

I had one drop like that in front of my truck last spring while riding around. Gave me some good photo ops.

Re: Hit The Deck!

Found this in a whitetail article.

Whitetail Deer Fawn

The buck fawn below is only a few days old. You can see the two round spots on his head between his ears and eyes that gives this information.

That is not true!! I help raise fawns every spring/summer and those spots don't mean anything. Some bucks have them and some don't, same goes for doe. Some are more defined than others, but its not relevant to the gender of the fawn. The fawn pictured below has them, and its a doe.

There's nothing like a day in the woods.....
