Humming bird nest nest (New Pic added w/bird

These are not the best pictures, I don't have a camera with a long lense. The birds are using the nest but I gave up trying to get a pic with a bird in the nest forfear of chasing them away from the nest, I had to get pretty close to take the pic. The nest is in a hemlock tree next to my yard. Again, pic isn't the best but you can see the bird in the new pic.

Nice find,John! We found one about 15yrs ago at a family picnic on July 4th.It didn't have eggs in at that time but over the weeks after it did.

The answers to all of life's questions are found in the Bible!

Re: Humming bird nest

First active one I have ever seen, actually my wife spotted it. She was sitting on the deck having her morning coffee and she saw the humming bird continuring to fly to the same spot in the hemlock tree. She stood up and then she could see the nest and then she called me. I am going to try this evening when the sun is in a better position to get a shot with the bird in the nest. It is too high to see if there are eggs in it but I suspect they are still working on it because the pair is flying in and out and they do not stay long. Probably gathering spider webs to line the nest.

Re: Humming bird nest

We found one in our pine tree a few years ago, and they put pieces of moss all over to camouflage it.

Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.

Humming bird nest?

It was buzzing around and when my son held his hand out it landed and stayed there while he pulled his phone out of his shirt pocket. After about two minutes rest it went on it's way.

Bill

I think I know what you thought you meant.

Re: Humming bird nest

A few years ago a guy at camp was waving his hands over his head chasing what he thought were flies or bees buzzing him. We were laugh'n, the humming birds really liked the red hat he was wear'n!

I think I know what you thought you meant.
